Personality
Ruby is described as being polite and loves cleanliness, with a love for the season when cherry blossoms bloom.[1]
Jewelpet
Ruby is playful and mischievous and enjoys eating a lot. She can also be lazy and tends to slack off, hence her magic grade of 0. Despite her laziness, Ruby can be serious when needs be and still tries to help her friends with her magic if even it has a high chance to fail.
Ruby is also gluttonous, as seen with her constant eating her own or the food others such as Rinko's cake slice[5] or Diana's kamaboko[6]. This trait is also carried over to later continuities.
Powers and Abilities
Jewelpet
Flight
Ruby, like other Jewelpets, can fly through the use of her broomstick, which she frequently uses throughout the story.
Magic
Ruby is capable of using magic, like every other Jewelpet, however due to poor grades her magic is mostly useless, either by failing to work as intended or not working at all. Throughout the story Ruby slowly learns more magic and becomes more efficient in its use.

Ruby can active her Jewel Power through the use of the incantation "Puru Puru Prism Jewerhythm Ruby Jewel Flash", her magic of courage gives courage to those it is used on, allowing them to overcome their fears. The large explosion caused by her magic failing, while leaving a crater behind, can prove to be useful, such as destroying a wall to create a shortcut for Rinko and friends to get to the airport.[7]
Later on, despite her magic class increasing, Ruby's Jewel Flash still causes explosions, though less destructive. After her training with Labra, her explosion was capable of blowing up an entire mountain.[8] |
Super Crystal Class Magic
Near the end of the story, during Dark Dian's attack on the human world, Ruby was trained by Labra to quickly became a Super Crystal Class Jewelpet, capable of summoning Opal through the Jewel Stick. She was able to shoot balls of magic that explode on impact and put up a fight against Dark Dian. After Dark Dian is defeated, Ruby's magic level is reverted to Acrylic Class after exhausting her magic power in her battle according to Rakumajo[9].
Ranking in the Sanrio Character Ranking
While Ruby herself isn't a participant of the Sanrio Character Ranking, being the mascot for Jewelpet she is the Jewelpet used to represent the franchise during the rankings, earlier appearances featured other Jewelpets like Garnet, Sapphie and Peridot. Despite this some Jewelpets have had independent participation outside Jewelpet's inclusion such as Jasper, Angela, Charotte and Rosa.
Trivia
- Ruby shares some traits with My Melody, both are white rabbits with a pink and/or red color palette and can use magic. Personality wise Ruby can be a klutz similar to My Melody in Onegai My Melody.
- During production of the first season of Jewelpet, Ruby was planned to have a different personality, being polite and tidy. This would've made her personality closer to how she is in the main Jewelpet continuity outside the anime.
- Ruby's Jewel Flash based on the first season where it causes a large explosion returned in the 2022 movie Jewelpet Attack Travel! as part of summoning the sightseeing bus to Jewel Land.
